Abstract
This bibliographic research, with a narrative review approach and qualitative nature, was conducted based on 31 sources from academic platforms with the aim of analyzing the role of wetlands in biodiversity conservation, as well as highlighting the importance of these ecosystems as a key solution to address environmental challenges. Additionally, it seeks to establish theoretical concepts that guide the formulation of policies and comprehensive strategies aimed at their protection. The research emphasizes the relationship between biodiversity and hydrological regulation, noting that ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, and grasslands maintain hydrological balance through natural processes. This implies that biodiversity loss compromises this capacity, increasing risks such as floods, droughts, and water quality deterioration. Consequently, the study underscores the need for integrated conservation and restoration strategies, including ecological restoration policies and sustainable practices to safeguard water resources. In conclusion, the protection of wetlands and biodiversity is crucial to ensuring the stability of water resources and a sustainable future, necessitating immediate and decisive actions.
