Abstract

Shoulder injuries in swimmers, common across diverse age groups and competitive levels, can be severe and debilitating. This systematic review (2015–2024) conducted a qualitative assessment to analyze rehabilitative treatments using the PICO framework and PRISMA methodology. The search identified 223 articles; after removing duplicates and irrelevant studies via title/abstract screening, 11 studies were selected, while a data matrix in Excel was implemented for systematic data collection. Findings indicate that exercise programs are the most frequently used intervention for pain and impingement syndrome, and to a lesser extent for scapular dyskinesia. Additionally, kinesio taping and exercise combined with ultrasound were applied, demonstrating efficacy in all cases for symptom reduction. It is concluded that exercise programs are the primary rehabilitation option, alleviating pain, impingement, and dyskinesia. This synthesis provides evidence to design specific protocols, reinforcing the importance of personalized exercise-based approaches supported by recent literature and underscoring the physiotherapist’s critical role in addressing shoulder injuries in swimmers.
