El suicidio se reconoció como un problema de salud pública, especialmente entre jóvenes universitarios, etapa en la que se presentaron mayores vulnerabilidades debido a situaciones académicas, sociales y personales. En este marco, se planteó como objetivo examinar la relación entre la ideación suicida y dimensiones clínicas evaluadas por el MMPI-2-RF en estudiantes de primer ingreso a la carrera de Psicología en una universidad pública del sureste de México. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo con un diseño transversal y correlacional. Participaron 80 estudiantes que respondieron el MMPI-2-RF. Se realizaron correlaciones de Pearson entre la escala de ideación suicida (ISU) y diferentes dimensiones clínicas, además de pruebas t de Student para explorar variaciones según el sexo. Los resultados mostraron correlaciones positivas y estadísticamente significativas entre la ISU y variables como desmoralización, malestar general, alteración emocional, impotencia, ansiedad, disminución de emociones positivas, emociones negativas disfuncionales y desconfianza de sí mismo. Aunque los hombres obtuvieron puntajes ligeramente más altos, no se identificaron diferencias significativas por sexo. Se concluyó que el MMPI-2-RF permitió detectar indicadores asociados a ideación suicida y podría apoyar el diseño de estrategias preventivas e intervenciones institucionales para promover la salud mental en la educación universitaria.
