Abstract

The central objective of this literature review is to unravel the structural and functional differences present in cortical dementias in order to provide essential tools for an accurate differential diagnosis. To achieve this, a meticulous selection and analysis of articles from renowned databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, and Google Scholar were undertaken, all of which were filtered based on specific inclusion criteria. From this thorough review, two fundamental findings emerged: firstly, the criticality of specificity and sensitivity in psychometric tests and biomarkers is highlighted. Secondly, the paramount importance of utilizing structural neuroimaging and, furthermore, the combination of different neuroimaging techniques for a differential diagnosis of cortical dementias is emphasized. In summary, given the rising projection of cortical dementias in the population and the multiple factors and comorbidities they present, advanced neuroimaging tools and rigorous tests are vital for achieving an early and proper diagnosis.
